...5 students...8 days...
In February of 2005, five Georgetown College students visited Guatemala for eight days as a part of a film project documenting chronic malnutrition. The experiences of these five students promptly led to the formation of Project Compassion (PC), which was formally announced during a campus visit from former U.S. Senator George McGovern, now the UN Global Ambassador on World Hunger.
PC has worked closely with the
UN World Food Programme
(WFP), the
Friends of the WFP, the state-wide community, and the
Georgetown College
campus in order to improve harsh conditions in four needful
Guatemalan schools that are the result of malnutrition.
At the 2006 commencement ceremony, PC presented a check for $50,000 to the WFP, an amount that earned the small team nationwide recognition in the area of hunger relief. Moreover, PC demonstrates that it is possible for small schools to get involved with the pressing issue of world hunger.
Always persistent, PC continues to increase awareness and to raise funds for relieving the problem of world hunger. For the 07-08 school year, the team is holding numerous events regarding world hunger, working with local school systems to raise awareness, and assisting in the relief of local hunger.
If PC sounds like a great program to you, please keep the team and its efforts in your thoughts and prayers regardless of religious affiliation. Furthermore, if this is an effort that you would like to support financially, the support is welcomed with much gratitude towards each and every donor. You can help out by donating now.
